98 Camaro Stereo Install - New Radio is too deep
I bought a radio before measuring the depth I had to work with. I bought a Pioneer DEH-X6600BT. I also got an Xscorpian single-din dash install kit. All went well until I started to put the radio in the slot and found that the new radio is about 1" too deep to fit.
My 1998 Camaro Z28 has a bracket at the back of the radio slot with a hole in it. It is where a pin from the original radio slides into the bracket to hold the back of the radio in place. That darn bracket is now in my way. It looks like there is a metal bracket coming up to it to hold the plastic front part of the bracket firmly. It wouldn't hurt anything to just dremal-tool the bracket out of there would it? I don't want to mess with another install kit or anything because this one is ready to go, and it would look funny to have the radio sticking out further. Advice?
So close yet so far....

Thanks. I did it. There was more than enough room to use a dremal-tool. I just sawed off the plastic bracket then bent the metal bracket by hand backwards. It worked perfectly. It all slipped in easily in just minutes. Wahoo!
