    Bubbling Roof?!?

My car has 22K miles on it, never seen rain or any other foul weather and my roof is getting pretty bad, almost all the way across and more noticeable on the drivers side. WTF is this and can it be fixed properly?

It's a common problem. It has to do with the glue GM used. You will have to completely replace it from what I understand. GM did repair for a while, but the time has now passed.

There are a few threads here discussing the issue.

    I found this:

Last I would suggest having a glass company re attach the new panel to the car. If you preffer to do it your self, buy a tube of ordinary windsheild urithane, same adhesive used to glue the front/rear glass into our cars. Cut a slice in the side of the despenser tip to allow the urithane to leave a bead that will stand up approx. 3/4" to take up any gap that might be between the new panel and the car. You have to have someone help you place the new panel into palce. Re fit your T tops while the adhesive is soft "it takes a couple of hours to start setting up" and make sure the gap to the rear is closed up but not too tight. Make sure your gap between the rear 1/4 panel is equal and square from side to side. Place several strips of tape to hold the panel in allignement and let sit over night.

The removal process sounds terrible but its the best/easiest way, it doesnt hurt anything but the peice that is being replaced. I have seen other techs try to cut it off with piano wire and they allways end up cutting the ribbon on the top of the rear glass or scratching something.

    Good luck guys!

Thanks for the post. When my car was bought brand new back in 99 the owner got extended corrosion protection, so Im not sure if this will still apply. I may bring it down to the local pontiac dealer and see if I can get them to do something, with a body shop of my choice offcourse.

Do I need to show them some sort of documentation to show that I have the extended corrosion warranty? And also do they fix it at their shop or can I take it to whoever?

I went to the dealer and took this along as well. I believe their computer system lists your info by VIN, so they should find that out.

I contacted pontiac customer service and made a complained about the problem. I was very polite to the lady and she set me up with an appointment at the local pontiac dealer, so the service manager can look at it. She said it sounds like they may fix the problem.

Good luck. I went and spoke with the guy several years back. After he told me he couldn't warranty it I asked what the cost of repair was. He called back a few hours later with an $1100 quote to replace and repaint the sail panel and small trim pieces that break when removing.
