Rebuilding IR Impact Wrench
Anybody ever rebuilt an Ingersoll-Rand 231Classic Air Impact Wrench, or any impact, for that matter? I got the rebuild kit with new vanes, bearings, etc, but it didn't seem to do any good. I use them a lot at work and really have to hammer on bolts (building steel sniper targets), so maybe they just take too much abuse and can't be repaired. Looking for tips, maybe I'm missing something besides simply replacing the parts.

I have only replaced the vanes in the drum. Water gets in the gun from condensation built up in the compressor and causes the guns to seize. I had an IR3132G which I bought from ebay back in 07. Worked fine until last summer when the gun started seizing all the time. I took it apart and the anvil had sheared in half. Water all over the inside of the gun. You might have the vanes in backwards. But if you have them in correctly, then try spraying the drum with brakleen and take a rag and wipe the vane slots. Should free up the vanes and let that gun rip like new. Keep us posted.

PB Blaster works great to free up and clean dirty air guns of all types. IR sells a tune up kit and it come with a bottle of PB. I sell alot of used air guns and I always pb all of them overnight makes a big differance in the most of them.

I'll have to try taking them apart again and cleaning them. I soaked them in agitene last time, and I'm pretty sure I got the vanes in correctly, but I'll have to check them again. I'm sure i did something wrong, just not sure what yet.
Thanks for the input guys, I'll let you know if I find out anything!
