That's why I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.... I did get 2 full piston cycles on compression by turning her w/ the plugs in, but who knows still if I bent a rod or something..... That's why i'd rather play it safe, and if the insurance covers enough, I'd rather stick a new one in there instead of paying for a good TIG welder, pulling the engine, then putting her back hoping there's no water-lock damage.... Too many if's and cash to do all that I think.... I'll keep you all posted on the outcome during the week.... Rental cars suck !!! I miss my baby !!!!!!

Just an update to all that have helped....Pulled the old engine and even the intake was filled with water. Luckily, insurance covered a NEW engine, so I dropped in a new LS1 from Fred Beans (best prices around)... the only things that had to be swapped over was the oil pan, TB, and exhaust manifolds. (2004 LS1 crate from a GTO). Then found that I got water even in the damn TPS sensor (man, that will leave your baby running like hell). So, it's all said and done with now, and she is running 100% and then some. Whew, did I miss her... (Note to all.... watch those CAI scoops in water... like damn straws.)
The only miserable thing is still being called a U-Boat Captain at work and them asking me how my submarine is doing.
So, just wanted to send you guys the update.
Thanks again for your input earlier

aye-aye cap'n
couldn't resist.
seriously though. Glad it's back up and running. File this one under lessoned learned and maybe someone else will stumble across this thread and be more cautious when approaching water. I wish you were the only person I've ever read about having this happen but you're not.Last edited by 0rion; 05-23-2007 at 08:46 PM.

Hello for all, i´m brasilian. I have the same problem with a Blazer 1998. I think that a nut (uma porca) resolve your problem, and a bracket, a support, (um braço, um suporte) behind (por traz) fixing the starter in the small block (fixando o motor de partida no bloco do motor) . Sorry, I dont´t speek or write in english very well.

Yes, you probably could fabricate a repair bracket to mount the starter, provided you maintain the correct geometry between the starter gear and ring gear. It would probably involve cutting away the damaged area and then drilling and tapping the block -- not an easy solution. As the block in an LS1 is aluminum it can be welded, however, it would be much easier having it out of the vehicle to work on.
Welcome to the site!

I saw someone was making a bracket to fix this issue.....been a year or so since I saw it but it's out there somewhere.

BLACK- 2000 RAM-AIR WS6 TA
T/A Syco, You are fortunate your insurance covered it. I hit a monster water puddle with my 78 back in the day and it broke off my air dam and both spoilers in front of my wheels. State Farm said it was an avoidable hazard and "my bad". Glad you are rolling again!
