gear oil question
I screwed up today. To make a long story short I meant to grab two bottles of 75w-90 at oreilly and I guess I grabbed 1 bottle of 75-140 on accident. So I have half 75-140 and half 75-90. I didn't realize it till I had 2/3 of the bottle poured in. I know I should drain it but at 20.0 a bottle and a messy job I was wondering what yall thought If I just ran it.

Unless you want to spend another $50 doing it right away.

Better to spend a little more $ and have peace of mind. I don't think it would've hurt anything but mixing oils can be a tricky thing. Sometimes they do strange things...

I use Lucas, if it keeps tractor pullers rears together that have 3,000 hp , it will work fine in my 740 hp street car

I use 85-140 dino oil in my rearend, the thicker oil will help disapate the heat better than the 75-90.

I have a buddy in my differential class who used dino based instead of synthetic like the manufacturer said. It was real cool taking apart that rear end and looking at the carnage it did all over the bearings and races.
Good practice to do it right the first time and not the second time

You would have been fine most likely, a little mpg drop and 1hp loss. I wonder if it would run cooler like "SteveC" said?
