Traction Issues...What to do?

I know the LS1 has tons of torque and no matter what you do you'll always have traction issues. However, what suspension mods can i do to help me with traction when i step on it in 1st and 2nd gear? I have 300 bucks, and am looking to get the most for my money. Specific brands and mods, with links and any other specifics are greatly appreciated!

What specifically does it do? Wheel hop? Wheel spin? A4 or A6? And what has already been done? I.E., has it been modded at all?

The answer(s) will be determined by what the answers are to my questions.

I have quite a few bolt on go-fast parts and with the MT's hot it's an "Insta-stick" off the line.

Stock tires not so much...

If the OP is running:

All season tires...they will break loose all the time when accelertator is mashed.

Summer tires...will break loose in cooler temps when accelerator is mashed.

on the street !!!! does not matter what you do , the problem is smashing the gas in 1st or 2nd .
i would say do not do it and applie gas as needed . i have beat car with 500 plus hp on the street with 359 hp on my car but then again i have learned to drive my car very well . good luck

wheel hop ,a good set of shocks and lowwer control bars .

I hook up very well on the street.
445RWHP at altitude (531 RWHP SAE) and 4.11's.

Just saying that it can hook up well. Probably will cost a little coin though.

If you are nearly stock,,,,just a simple set of sticky tires would cure most any wheel spin. Could cause another set of problems though,,,wheel hop if you don't already have it.

Personally speaking,,, wheel spin is a good thing with these cars, because once they start hooking, the stock rearend won't be very happy.

Not to mention, $300 won't go too far in the suspension department,,,but it would get you close to a set of drag radials.

I have summer tires..Wide Ovals, and i have the M6. I'm looking to cut down the wheel spin through suspension upgrades. I've heard that UMI is a good brand, and that LCA's help too. Anything else?

Wide Ovals = Flinstone tire tech. They wear like iron and grip as good also.

Are you more interested in how long they last or how well they grip?

Exactly.

Like I mentioned, it comes down to tire selection more than anything on a mild street car.

Cutting down on wheel spin with suspension only and no sticky tires will be small gains at best. And cost much more than your $300 budget.

You can do things like adjustable torque arm, lower control arms, lower control arm relocation brackets to change instant center, also shocks play an important roll. Adjustable is the way to go for a street driven car that sees track duty as well.

To do it right you are looking at spending $1,500 or more. But with rock hard rubber it's all for not.

I have the suspension on my chevelle setup well enough, cutting 1.5 60 foot times and pulling the left front tire. I run drag radials 99% of the time on the car,,,street or strip. It hooks well on the street.....But.....
Simply bolting on a set of regular street tires makes the car absolutely stupid to drive at anything more than half throttle and 640 HP. Doesn't matter what I do with the suspension,,,,,,see what I'm getting at???

Spend the $300 on bleach and enjoy the spin!!

Really, with a stock setup, tires are gonna be the best way to go right now till you get more $$$$ to deal with upgrading the suspension. Don't cheap out on it either or you'll just end up more problems. Do the research and get the right setup for what you're tryin to do - full on racing, or road and strip use, or just road runnin it.

Alrighty, well i thought Wide Ovals were good street tires but i'm obviously sadly mistaken haha. I guess tires would be my best investment then. I'm trying to stay away from drag radials because i want the car to have decent grip in the wet. Whats the best street tire i can buy for grip(excluding drag radials)?

i'll definitely keep those in mind. Are they good in the wet? Also i'll probably be looking for the top 5 best street tires to compare them. Have any other favorites?

Also, top 5 best gripping street tires from anyone else?

I'm with Luos,,,,,,I like the BFG KD's as well. I have them on both of our 4th gens.
Work great for me, I've gone 1.93 60 foot times on them with bone stock suspension on the first try,,,,lol.

As far as wet,,,they are fine for what little wet driving I've done on them. But I don't go racing around in the rain either so just about any tire has done fine for me in the rain....

Mr Luos is your car a M6 or auto ? If auto i might believe it but a m6 at 3500rpm and above 1st or 2nd smashing it , it will spin the tire . know if stop and burn the tire up then you got a differrent story .
