Does a 17-inches Wheel Make More Noise?

Wheels don't cause road noise. It's the tire size that causes it. However, when selecting new tires, they should have energy efficiency ratings. The higher it is, the lower the rolling resistance, thus less noise and harder wearing.

However, the noise levels 17 inch alloy rims aren't that dramatic, and unless you trialed them back to back, you'd probably be hard-pushed to notice a difference. In some cases, you may even find the 16″ tire is louder than the 17″ tire because the model also plays a huge role.

wheel size has nothing to do with road noise. the noise you hear is from tire material, it's tread and road surface.

Not only the tire rubber compound, but the tread design/pattern as well, as the pattern can be conducive to cavitation.

We changed the wide and worn-out tires with narrower dura grappler nitto tires on the same wheels. The ride has been quiet.
