You guys are vacuuming out my head!

on another note, if I do not burn oil, what benefit will there be of me adding a catch can. I use almost no oil over a 4,000 mi OCI on the LS1 so I am thinking that it would not be of much benefit to me. Is my thinking right?

if your intake is clean then the need for a catch can is diminished..but if you have some spare cash you might as well pick one up..its all about insurance

If you have the entire PCV system deleted and have the double breather set-up, why run a catch can at all?

because with a pcv system with a good catch can a breather is not necessary

Problem is the GM engineers haven't built a good/proper PCV system.

You're right. Back before pcv systems were even invented thats all we ever did on the old Gen 1 small blocks, it's the way they came, a simple breather on the intake that doubled as your oil fill, and a dump tube at the rear of the block. There weren't even provision in the valve covers at that time. Simple and it worked.

Guess the problem came when the tree huggers decided that wasn't environmentally friendly.

With that being said I guess on these newer cars that have to be tested in certain areas it becomes a question of whether you want to pass inspection or not. The simple breather solution probably won't fly.

Is this a good mod for a stock GTO as well? I just paid for and will be picking up an Silver 05 Goat on tuesday. And whats the average cost for this setup?

Did mine even though it didn't burn any oil, knock on wood! Bought a billet model, but you can do one for 20 to 30 bucks and it will do the job, I can tell you after a hard day you will drain oil out of the can. Mine has a breather on each valve cover and have had no problems, good stuff.

Yes. As stated right above me.....you can do it for less than buying aftermarket parts. But it will run anywhere from $150 bucks for a manufactured catch can and a store bought breather and plugs to a home Depot setup/breathers and plugs for under $100 bucks.

Sarge, correct me if I'm wrong, but you have the PCV system deleted but you still run a catch can?

I have the truck pcv valve and redid 100 percent of my system.... popped the TB off while I had the pump out. Im really thinking of buying a nice nice catch can. No oil puddled up but dam its greasy feeling. Ill spring for the new catch can when i go ls6.
