The alarm by itself will not. But you can have the installer bypass it for you, but all he is gonna do is what is writen in this post and charge you 70-80 bucks to do it. best thing is to do it yourself.

Thanks for the advice, save me plenty of money. I got the Cermet Potentiometer at Radio shack $2.69, you can adjust it to the ohms you need. Car is starting just fine light is off.

    Hello
    I read on my key at 20 K : 3.02 or 3.01
what resistor do i need ?
Do I need a white key (without the resistor) ?
This afternoon I located the wires end I disconnected the harness. On the back I try to put thru the purple/white a resistor with a value of 2997 ohms, but nothing works...is it my key ? my resistor ? so, must I reconnect the harness ???
    Thanks to answer
    All the best

Looks like you have the #9.

No. I did the bypass and used the same key till I got it fixed. If the bypass with the correct resistor does not work then the key is not the problem. It means it could be your key cyliner (Where you stick the key in to start) Which can be pretty expensive to fix at a dealership.

actually by doing this mod you're bypassing the key and cylinder.

Do you have gold band or silver band resistors? Gold has 5% and silver has 10% variance. Also, was your security light on? Just making sure you had a vats issue to begin with. Are you putting more than one resistor on and if so are they in parrellel or in series? If more than one is used they need to be in a series.

I putting two resistor in series :
the colors of the resistors are : gold red green brown
for one resistor the value is 1500 ohms.

that should work then. You're putting those across the purple and white wires on the module side of the plug?

the cylinder is being bypassed if you're putting it on the module side of those wires.

by doing this mod you are bypassing the key cylinder and the module right?
I've done it on my car already just wanted to make sure I'm right.

no, you're just bypassing the key and cylinder. Look at it this way. When you insert the key into the ignition the resistor pellet in the key contacts 2 small wires in the cylinder which sends the ohm resistance to the vats module which then says pass or fail to the pcm. By putting those resistors inline you're basically telling the module that it passes all the time.
