So my SS as it sits has around 69K on it. I have owned it for almost 5 years. The only thing I haven't done to it is have the transmission serviced. I called the dealer that is literally right across the street from my house and they said that they flush the system out but don't change the filter but flush it. Is that a common thing??? I am a little leary about that. Would like peoples thoughts on it. Thanks.

The shop i ran always gave you the option of changing the filter and then flushing trans . On my personal vehicles I always changed the filter and refilled the fluid and then flushed it . I could definitley tell the difference when it was done . It costs more to do it that way but doesnt compare to the price of a new trans .

Servicing the transmission is quite simple. I have never had a garage "flush" any of our transmissions. The theory behind flushing is that you change all the fluid as simply dropping the pan will leave quite a bit of transmission fluid remaining in the converter (2-3 qts). I always change the filter and replace the pan gasket. So long as you service it every 50,000 miles or so you should be good. Bring it down and we can do this in a couple of hours...

WHAT automatic tranny fluid do you use? I have it changed every 30,000 miles. is one brand better than another for a car that is mostly city driven? i have a 120, 000 miles on this tranny so it is due.
