V6 Camaro/Firebird with Hotchkis or SLP Level II springs

Hi,

i have a question about a common subject about springs, it maybe asked several times, but i am living in the Netherlands (Europe), so i must be sure for i order them, i can't send them back if i don't like them.

Is there someone having the Hotchkis springs (springrate 285-525 and 100-140) or SLP Level II (springrate 300-450 and 115-185) on a 3.8V6 Camaro or Firebird.

I know the Hotchkis springs should be a drop of 1", and the SLP Level II a drop of 0.5", but this measured on a V8.

Is it possible to measure the height between the fender and ground (see pictures), see pictures, thanks for the effort.

I have the Hotchkis springs on my Trans Am. IIRC using the same method you pictured above I had 26.0" in the front and 26.5" in the rear. What's funny is even though the springs were to lower it 1" I gained an inch over my stock springs. They must have been really worn out.

Also that was with 16x8 wheel with 245/50/R16 tires. That will also effect the height. I can't tell you now what it will be because I've pulled the motor and I have 17x9's with 255/40/R17's in the front and 275/45/R17's in the rear.


And yes that is measured on a V8. With a V6 you should sit a little taller because of less weight.

I have a 3.8V6 with a manual transmission, it should be a little heavier than with an auto, but still less than a V8
the height in the front with my orginal springs (my car has only run about 24.000 miles) is about 27,3" and the back is 27,9"

I have to say the difference of before and after with the springs (plus new HD shocks) really tighten up the suspension. I also have all of the suspension mods with the exception of the front end.

i ordered the SLP 70009 springs last week, they travelled over half the world (Netherlands Europe)
DHL has brought them today.

Now it just make sense, the SLP 70009 springs are the LEVEL II springs, i thought they were the LEVEL I type.
But they are the same as the replacement springs for the SS Camaro/Firehawk.
The SLP 70009 is just the complete set, you can see on the pictures the front springs has the code SLP 300/450 and the rear SLP 3831RRA.

i changed the stock springs with the SLP LEVEL II springs this weekend, the springs in the rear was easy, but the front was a little more difficult.
The rear lowered between 0,5" and 3/4" and the front lowered nothing, this is fine for me, the car is nicely leveled now.






When the weather is better i will post some more pictures.

I have still one question, the rear lowered between 0,5" and 3/4", do i need a new adjustable torque arm and panhard ?, it's a 3.8V6 Camaro.

I have a read somewhere that the SS Camaro/Firehawk with the optional LEVEL II suspension package came out of the factory (SLP) with the factory panhard and torque arm (they where both non adjustable), because of the LEVEL II springs did lower so less.

More than likely you wont need a panhard bar but replacing the stamped steel one for a nicer one wouldn't hurt.

A better panhard would be good upgrade, but what do with the Torq arm, must i replace it with a adjustable ? (see picture)

I recommend it. Like the PHB the stamp steel just doesn't cut it.
