Black- 1993 Potiac Trans Am
Dirver's door guide roller broke part discontinued
I am still kinda new to this board, my experience with f-body's has been mostly 3rd and 2nd gens.
I have a problem with my driver side door window on my '93 T/A.
The metal piece that attaches to the glass itself in the door broke!
GM calls it the "outer window sash channel, left side"
Well, now the window can travel forwards and backwards as well as up and down!
The guide pin with a plastic wheel attached goes into the verticle channel inside the door,
the pin is no longer attached to the sash panel.
These parts are now DISCONTINUED! No GM dealership has one sitting on the shelf either.
These seem to have a more frequent rate of failure in the auto power window optioned cars.
This wheel bottoms out in the channel and stops the window from lowering.
The torque from a power window motor over time bottoming out the pin against the bottom of the channel pin
cracks the sash channel arond the hole where the guide pin attaches and the guide pin pops out.
My question is :
If I go to a j-yard to find another one, am I not buying the same problem.
Unless it is from one with manual windows?
Is there an aftermarket solution to this?

do you have a part number for it? I wouldn't worry about buying the same unit again as long as it's in good shape. I mean the first one lasted 17 years right?
edit: Just looked it up at gmpartsdirect.com and they list an outter left sash panel for $39Last edited by 0rion; 07-16-2010 at 09:47 PM.

Yes my part lasted 17 years.
So have the parts in the junkyard.
I saw that too!
I went to put it in my shopping cart and it told me that they were either
discontinued or supeceded by another part number.
They gave me an e-mail.
Got a response today:
Hello Mark,
The part numbers you requested has been discontinued and is no longer available from GM.
Thank you,
Matt

I had this problem a few months ago. I did 2 things. In my case I found the metal stud with the roller inside the door. I was able to put it back together and used JB weld. That held it together for a while. As far as the part goes junk yard is your best option. You can either get it with the window attach it to it or a broken glass one.
To get the old one out you need to get a dremmel tool and grind off the rivets off. When you do this you can remove the window and then replace the part. If you are no comfortable putting back the window and/or don't have the right tools for it take it to a glass repair shop. It will be better to spend a couple bucks to get it installed than breaking it. good luck and keep us posted.
