Navy Blue Metallic- 98 Camaro Z28
Fixed a bodyshop nightmare (very pic heavy)
This SS recently had a lot of work done. Most notably his custom DH stripe and the Asanti wheels that really set this car apart. The owner wasn't very happy with how the body shop finished his paint so he called me for a consultation on his car. After a few minutes of looking at it, it was apparent this would be a much bigger job than anticipated. So he dropped it off at my house and I spent several days working on it. Upon closer inspection I found numerous sections that were completely unfinished after wetsanding, several areas where there was nearly no clear or paint either, and several burn marks from the body shop running a wool pad at high speed on edges. I was able to bring the majority of the car back though.
Keep in mind, this is not a 100% correction, but most sections was able to achieve ~95% correction.
Total time about 25 hours.
Before I got started I photographed the worst spots. Here you can see there is almost no paint coverage and even less clear. These sections I didn't touch at all...it would just make it worse.
Previous shop burned the plastic here
And again, the plastic trim here...
A few paint burns I found
Ready for the swirls and wetsanding marks that were left for me?

There was massive orangepeel around the gas door that I had to wetsand to get it smooth.
Wetsanded, but didn't go too deep because of the thin paint in other areas.
Fixed
Can you say product fling? The inside of the hood scoop is unfinished fiberglass so it was pretty much impossible to clean. Thanks a lot bodyshop...

Heavy waterspots that dried on the car as the clear was curing. The spots were baked into the clear. I got most of them out, but after 3 steps of compounding/polishing, it was apparent they weren't gonna come completely out without wetsanding the entire hood and fenders.
Better...
A quick 50/50 on the fender and door....
Can you say DA sander marks/swirl/hologram heaven?

This is where it starts to get better... The front bumper looked completely flat with no reflection as well. I didn't get a before pic though. This after pic was taken at about 2am so its a little shaky... BUT at least it has gloss again!

How does that bodyshop stay in buisness. One car like that and I'd lose all my cusomers. I'd be ashmed to let that car leave, oh wait let me take that back it wouldn't have left before it looked like the after pics. Some people just take no pride

Nice job fixing it. dam 25 hours. I can do a whole paint job then wet sand, buff, polish and glaze a car in 40 to 50 hours unless it's a color change or needs alot of bodywork.1998 Trans Am 85k miles.

I wish I could have found you several years ago,(just a short drive to Cali) we bought a new Camry that was a dark blue and had some kind of water spots or soap dried on the paint or ??? Anyway the idiots at the dealership sent it to some buffer happy shop that made the pant look like the Camaro did before you got it ... and still didn't get the spots off the paint. We had already made the deal, signed the paperwork, and gotten an awesome trade-in for my truck so I just lived with it until we traded it a few years later. I haven't seen anybody around our small detail shops that do your kind of work, awesome!
