ls1 swap crank pully problem
i am swapping a corvette ls1 into my 72 vista cruiser wagon and i just installd a kwik performance ps and alt bracket kit and the ps and alt and idler pullys align perfectly but the crank pulley is about a 1/4-1/2 inch to far from the motor to align (closer to the radiator) i read on kwiks website how to determine which crank pulley you have and the measerments of mine (from front cover to the edge of the pulley) was none of the above, so could i just tighten the pulley on more until it lines up? or what lets you know when its on all the way? before i go doing something drastic id like some more opinions. thanks. Daren

By chance, does the difference between your measurement spec and actual measurement equal the amount you are off by? I've never had my balancer off, but I assume there is a shoulder on the crank snout that it bottoms out against.

think i found it out
well the pulley was not seated all the way and i found this out by stripping the bolt a little bit and removing the pulley and measering the snout depth and the pulley, corvette from front cover to front pulley is 2 and 1/8 in i was at 2 3/4 and all the way in would be 2 in so i read on a different post to put the pulley in the oven at 350-400 for 20 mins or so and then put it on (sposed to make it alot easier) so im going to get a new bolt and try that. too bad for the 1/4 in of threads wasted but i guess live and learn and hope it will be alright i think il still get about 1/2 of threads and il be sure to loctite it. hope it works

crank pulley
unfortunatley it did bugger up the crank threads some and i heated up the pulley to 350 for 20 mins pressd it on with 16 mm all thread and some nuts and washers and tightened the bolt up until i thought it would strip out hopefully it holds and dont come off. somehting to be nervous about the whole time i drive it when its done ;/
