my car died!
hey guys i have a totaly new problem. On my way to class my 99 trans am just plain died. I had no PS no gas no PB, nothing. I got it to a stop and I had no power for accessories, radio windows nothing and the car would not even click or try to turn over. I had the idea to disconnect my mass airflow sensor, TB sensors, and the sensor on my lid, left it disconnected for about 4 min, hooked it all back up and it worked, and my SES light was off, for a while. other than not having my rear cats tunned out, the only mods i have are LT's a custom y pipe, free egr mod, and a magnaflow cat back. a couple of days ago the mesh in my MAF fell out so i cleaned it up and did not replace the mesh, would this have done it? I ran the car for 2 days no problem after the mesh fell out but i made sure nothing got in the motor. I all so just changed the oil the other day but it ran fine all that day. any way other than the SES light coming back on there has not bin an issue today, I was just wondering WTF could have made my car do this? too many codes for the SES, I know of the rear cat/o2 and egr are throwing codes but i would not think that would have done this plz help.

First check all your battery connections for loose wires or corrosion.

12.3 is too low. Where did you check it? Does it go up with rpm's?

Is that with the car running? Should be 13-14 with the car running.

That voltage is ok when the engine isn't running. With the engine running it should be 13-14 volts

when you idle it should drop a bit but when you are driving it should be around 13 - 14 volts. Also check the wires real good. I had a bad wiere and it looked fine from the outside but it had like 3 inches of corrosion in the inside.

running your car with the MAF de-screened is fine. it will not affect the drivability of your car. like others have said check all the electrical and make sure (if this happens again), that you take note of what if anything the fuel pump is doing as well. IE priming when you turn to accessories, etc., to make sure you arent having fuels issues too.

Sure sounds like a battery or battery connection issue. That would explain the no electrical power when it died. Maybe it got jiggled then the connection was made again, and it is ok now until it gets moved.
No the mesh for the MAF didn't cause any of that.

When you say you checked it out - did you remove the battery cables, remove the alternator hot lead, remove the ground connection, clean all and re-install?

The hot lead goes from the battery to Junction block 1, then to junction block 2, the ignition "maxifuse", then splits, one lead to the starter relay, one to power distribution, and one to ignition switch. From the battery there are two other leads, one to the alternator and one to the starter.
From junction block two, power goes to the ignition switch run circuit, and to the ignition relay.
I would guess that if you check you connections at the junction blocks, the maxifuse, and the ignition relay you will find the problem and if not I would replace the ignition relay.
