Definitely noticeable. Shifted far better over stock.

Yeah there is a table for all the shift points, up and down, throttle angle vs mph vs speed,,,,, adjusting is infinate. It will probably take some seat time and several reflashes to get it just right for your particular taste.

Thanks for the info guys. Santa bringing HPtuners was great after all. After testing the stuff here my 01 5.3 with mud tires are spinning like nuts on dry pavement. Thats just the spark tables. PE adjustments and tranny. Cannot wait until i get the fuel tables sorted out!!!

1999 Formula WS6 M6-sold- 2001 Silverado Z71
Anyone know of any good HPtuner Diesel tuning guides? My buddy just picked up an 04 LB7 Duramax. My quick google search didn't find anything but I'm gonna keep looking tonite when I have more time.

1999 Formula WS6 M6-sold- 2001 Silverado Z71
UPDATE:
My diesel tuning skills are lacking but I've learned (and already forgotten) quite a bit about them. We ended up finding a few decent Duramax tunes to just try out. And now we found one thats working pretty nicely. He has an EGT gauge installed and this tune runs decent temps. He tried towing with it using a flat car trailer with a GMC Jimmy on it and the temps are high but okish when accelerating. So he's thinking that when he really needs to tow his big trailer, this tune is gonna be too hot.
The one thing that absolutely sucks about tuning Diesels with HPtuners is that its SUPER finicky. It'll never connects correctly with the transmission control module so we can't even get into the trans settings and it'll rarely connects nice and cleanly with the ECM. It's literately a 20 to 30 minute process of trying different techniques/tricks/key on+off/resetting connections, programs, the computer before magically it works. Tuning a gas truck...30 seconds and it done all day long.
Just tweaked my other friend's gas truck (06 Sierra 6.0 liter) yesterday. We finally fixed his issue. He was getting spark knock retard at WOT around 60mph and 3600 to 3800 rpm. So you'd feel a big hesitation when that happened. 1st we bumped up the MAF calibration around that spot and it helped. Next we bumped up the PE ratio right there and the problem was almost gone. We only had a small hesitation and .7 degree knock retard.
Some how he came up with the idea that it felt like a shift and asked if the Torque converter clutch was engaging. I said, I doubt the torque converter is engaging in second gear and WOT. But I turned it off on the scanner and the problem went away. Hmmm....we went to the TCC charts and tried softening up the engagement like it is in the stock tune and yep that took care of it. Weird.Last edited by Cutlass; 04-13-2012 at 06:46 PM.

In case you never got this figured out, if you use the HELP thing at the very top of the page, you can simply find the area you need info on, and it'll show the complete description of the table you are wanting to find out about.
FWIW, My 5.3 litered 373 geared 2002 Z71 gets mid 16's to high 17's in heavy footed mixed driving. That is with an 87 octane tune, and I did just whoop up on a fairly stock late 80's/early 90's 5.0 Mustang yesterday...lol. Poor kid didn't know what hit him.2002 Silverado Z71 ECSB HPTuners tuned by yours truly

Hey bud, good to see you post in here again.
Thanks for the info. No I never did figure it out. I've been doing alot of guessing on these tables I'll have to check out the help section. Hopefully it pops up a better description while I'm in a certain table so I don't have to fish around, because I'm not to good at fishing Too bad that desciption at the bottom of the page doesn't scroll.

Thanks. Good to be back. Sold my SS a few years ago and have just been doing tuning on my truck and a few limited friend's cars. Got to stay in practice in case I get another toy, lol.
As for the HPTuners program HELP...
Click the HELP thing at top of HPTuners editor and you'll be directed to the HELP area.
Click on WORKING WITH VCM EDITOR...
Scroll down to PARAMETERS - GM, then click on it...
Then search and click on whatever parameter you need the full description of...
Happy Fishing...lol
I 100% agree that it'd be so much easier to be able to find the COMPLETE description right on the screen as you're working with a certain parameter, but that evidently makes way too much sense, lol.

Strictly low budget/free stuff...I have Ebay 1-3/4" stainless steel longtubes, 3" ORY pipe, custom 1 into 2 exhaust w/Dynomax muffler, homemade 4" cold air kit w/modded stock airbox, LS1 fans, self ported throttle body, coolant bypass, and Vette servo in the stock 4L60E tranny. It's my daily driver/work beater, but runs very strong. My "winter blended gas" mileage is/was about the same as yours. My truck is also lowered. It's a Z71 4wd but has 2" drop spindles in the front, rear block removed, and 2" lowering shackles. Basically sits like a stock, or VERY mild lowered 2wd.
FWIW, the electric fan conversion and lowering did absolutely nothing for MPG's.
Here's my homemade 4" CAI kit...VERY cheap, but not possible without the LS1 fans.

and modded stock airbox:

My truck's had quite a few different looks since I have had it...lol

and for some unknown reason...no current pic aside from the small sig pic.
sorry, I was bored...lolLast edited by rel3rd; 05-04-2012 at 06:55 PM.

You did alot of things just as I did on my 6.0 swap in my 72 blazer 4x4.
I went with dual electric cans from a 4th gen which also gave me more room for my air intake setup. Which I custom made using 4" pipe and some mandrel bends.
The only thing I didn't do is headers (no one makes a good set for an LS conversion in a 4x4) But I at least have a real dual 2 1/2" system.
I haven't ported the throttle body as of yet either, but did the bypass mod, I also went with an SD tune on it which seemed to really wake the truck up. I run a built 4L60 behind it and a set of 3.73 gears.
I'm getting similar mileage out of this 6.0. 17's around town. Mixed driving doesn't seem to change it much at all. My best highway is 22 but it seems to get 20 pretty consistently.
