Found out that Spec has conversion clutch packaged specific to my build. That's what I'll be getting!

Exclamation advice on a clutch what to avoid?!!

What you need in a clutch to avoid chatter:
1.) make sure the disc has a sprung hub ie that the center splined hub is circled by a group of coil springs this is what cushions that moment when the clutch stops slipping and couples up.
2.) if possible see if the clutch friction material has a Macrel which is just a donut shaped pc of wavy spring steel this allows you that little bit of controlled slip to make that cool skilled take off from a dead stop, that says yes I am vary skilled at driving stick ; no chug, chug away for me or rev-bog and away
3.) Stay away from the the puck style clutchs they are usually cut out so the have a number of arms anywhere from 3 to 6 usually at the end of each arm is a puck of sinister iron or bronze they hold like crazy but are brutal on the street because they act more like light switch either on or off with nothing inbetween are almost impossible to slip. Be warned they look cool as hell and you'll want one but unless your building track bullet you won't be happy but if it will only see duty on the drag strip this maybe a good match the matalic pucks are almost imune to heat. But again putting along in the stagging lanes will soon turn into pushing along the lanes.

I hear good things about the LS7 clutch in a street driver but that it doesn't like repeated high RPM dumps that it is damaged and loses some of it holding power with repeated abuse. But on the other hand it's supposed to be a joy to live with, especially in DD, light pedal , easy to modulate, not terrible expensive.
Speaking of the LS7 ZO6 the only time I have ever heard Jeremy Clarkson of TOP GEAR UK speak a word of praise about any american car was when they tested the Corvette ZO6 w/the LS7; because it had one vary cool party trick The car with him in it is at one end of the runway he puts into 5th lets the ciutch out slowly just a hint of chatter and then goes from zero to 175mph w/o shifting which he thought was amazing. He also thought the rest of the car was rubbish as the British say (american translation "crap")he kept compareing it to Ferrari which literally cost over 2&half times as much, I want to say it was the 430 predecessor to the current all conquering 458.

love the shot of the eng from the flywheel straight on flanked the collectors of the headers 2nd shot from the top. The amazing thing to me is how right the LS1 looks in the eng. bay of a 944/951 & presumably a 968 as well; all that power and torque in a small light highly capable and manuveurable chassis Damn that thing is going to be Jack from jack and the beanstalk ie a giant killer. All the great handling preserved with easally twice the power the NA 2.5L makes 150 horse IIRC A STOCK lS1 is more than twice that. I could never do this because if it turned out only have as well as I think it will. People would soon think me insane as drove around town gigling like teenage school girl just burb-a-ling along in it.
I think I might risk it, just the same; somethings are worth the risk.

Cool. Thanks for the info on the clutch setups. Think I'm going with the Spec Stage 2. Love Top Gear...def remember the episode your talking about too. Was a good one. The LS1 does fit and look amazing in the 944/951. Can't wait to finish her up! Gonna be pretty soon I hope!

Ball joints replaced, tie rod ends replaced and the suspension is buttoned back up with new stainless brake lines. Clutch ordered as well as larger radiator, Prosport gauges, and P&P throttle body and MAF ends.

Sorry, I never received the notification that this thread had been updated! I have no driveability issues with mine. There was some slight chatter during the initial break-in period. I've put about 15,000 miles on the clutch now and it still works well.

Hey guys! Yea the new emblem will be the one in my avatar pic. I'm working with a machine shop in the UK that specializes in making custom badges so that I can spread these awesome things around. Also, I ended up going with the stage 2 Spec. Figured it would hold the power ill be making just fine. This is the countdown to the final days of the build! Heading to Texas Performance Concepts on Friday to complete wiring/ECU flash, plumbing, and tuning! Can't wait to post some video and dyno numbers! Stick around and spread the word!
