So probably only a couple of you know... whom I am FB friends with...
But Tuesday night, my work burned down. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the fire was contained to just the service shop. But the damage is devastating... we completely lost our shop, and all of my techs lost their tools. Not to mention the customer cars that burned up inside too, including the lady who insisted that her Corvette be indoors overnight because it's never seen rain. It still hasn't seen rain, but it has now seen fire. We spent the last 3 days trying to devise a plan to continue to operate until the building gets rebuilt. This is going to be a long road to recovery, but for the most part, our customers are standing behind us and helping however they can.
Cause of massive blaze at Buff Whelan Chevrolet in Sterling Heights still under investigation
There are several articles with more pictures if you just google it.
Including the video of the cleaning crew who knocked a gas tank over and then sucked gas up into a floor scrubber and started the fireLast edited by konigandy6; 07-22-2017 at 09:21 AM.

The tech nor the cleanup guy I don't think will ever win awards for the smartest guy in the room.
We had a meeting on Thursday, and the GM and the owner both told all of us that our pay is guaranteed until we are back on our feet. I had some of my customers calling me to offer me a job just in case we lost ours or had to go on unemployment. But instead, I show up to work every day at my normal time, and do whatever I can to help. They way I look at it... if I'm getting paid, I'm going to keep busy. I may be the highest paid porter there lol

My first antique radio restoration project is going well. A few days ago, I finished replacing all the capacitors, installed a new power cord and an in-line fuse. I added some tools to my garage especially for this project -- a variac, dim bulb tester, smaller wire strippers, cutters and pliers, and I replaced my soldering gun. It was challenging interpreting the schematic and understanding what I was actually seeing in the radio chassis. Now that it plays again, I have to address a couple of other issues before remounting it in the cabinet. Here's a vid of it working for the first time in probably a few decades:

I'm doing a party the weekend after labor day. It may not be gourmet but I bet it'll rank top 10 on your bbq list.

Played with the radio a bit more tonight and found that grounding the set alleviates any popping when I play with the tuning shaft. I also extracted the volume control and opened up the case to clean the contacts. First time I ever utilized de-soldering braid -- that is some really neat stuff. Trying to figure out now if I should lubricate the contacts or leave them dry.
