Honestly, no. I have tried seafoam and was not happy with the results. The my plugs were fouled out and the car misfired for a few weeks after even after new plugs and wires. Not saying autorx the best, just saying its not as harsh. This was a ford explorer. Wasn't right for me to blurt it out without any explanation but i just wanted to state that i would try AutoRx before seafoam in my vehicles, mainly because of all i have heard as far as success stories of one vs the other.

Forgot to mention also, Amsoil engine flush. Been waiting to try that and have yet to hear anything bad about it.

But given that, you DO NOT want to leave it in the oil for long. I use it, but drive no more than 25 miles with it in the oil.
When I use seafoam, I use an entire can throughout the motor.
1/3 in the oil before an oil change.
1/3 in the fuel before a fill up.
1/3 in the brake booster right before the oil change.

That said....why in the hell is this thread back around anyways?? This was started a while back.
Well I brought it back due to the fact that there was multiple new threads from 's asking ?'s about SeaFoam. I felt No need to to waste time starting a new debate when we covered this in Great detail already.

I think I have a stuck lifter. I know something in it is ticking. I'm in the process of fixing my T/A and it should be ready to go soon. After that, I'm planning on rebuilding the engine in the Eclipse and then probably selling it. Would it be safe to use seafoam or that AutoRX stuff on that engine right now to hold me over until I get my T/A done or would it completely disintegrate the remaining stuff in my gaskets?
I would just add a 1/2-3/4 quart of ATF to the oil. That should free up a lifter plunger if that is actually the problem. I would leave it in for 50-60 miles.
I would Also suck a can of SeaFoam through a vacuum line right before you change the oil to free-up any stuck piston rings you have. That could be part of your oil consumption issue. As said before it will Smoke Big time so Don't do it at home! I have used this stuff since 1993 and on well over a 100 cars and NOT had a single issue. That being said I have only added it to the oil of maybe 15% of the cars over the years.

So this Exploder you used the SeaFoam on had how many miles? And how exactly did you use the product. VERY curious due to the fact I have used this stuff for 17 years now on over a 100 cars and NOT had a Single issue.

Think it was at around 50k miles. Went through the brake booster line. Went through about half a can.

ATF? Really???? Didnt know that. Thanks. How does that work?

And with my car having 242,000 miles on the chassis and an unknown amount on the engine but I'm guessing around 140,000 or so, seafoam would be safe to use? Or should I use that AutoRx stuff that was also mentioned?

No experience with it personally, but I would assume the reasons why people say not to use Seafoam or change to synthetic oil after a certain amount of miles would apply to AutoRX.
To be clear, this is NOT a knock on aforemetioned product.

    Seafoam cleans EVERYTHING.
Similar reason to why some say not to switch over to synthetic after a certain amount of miles.
Just in case.....at least as far as my opinion goes.......
I've used Seafoam in 3 motors over 170XXX with no issues. Sarge once recommended AutoRX because of its ability to break up varnish on bearings better then Seaform.

That was probably the problem. I Always suck a whole can through in 2 stages. If you did it all at once it probably just started to break down all the build up and Never got a chance to burn it all out. Was it a Mod motor or a pushrod 5.0?

You can buy autoRx online only i think, and from what i remember its only for your crankcase. Only thing i have heard is it doesn't work as well on aluminum.

How were you planning on using the seafoam? You can do it through vacuum, your fuel system, or in the oil itself.

I used it once last year. I was advised by my tuner to do so when I had my car dynoed two years ago. Put the entire can in the tank and filled up. No problems.

It is on the brake booster. The hose runs to the back of the intake manifold from the booster.

Look for the master brake cylinder. The master connects to the brake booster. Look to the left of where the master connects to it and you should see it.
