just use common sense and dont say anything that will make them think its your fault. Hey bottom line if there was no other way of getting around the puddle then there was no other way.
If they don't pay for it Im sorry to say you might wanna look into getting a credit card with 6 months same as cash and buying a new motor for it. I'd only recommend this if you can pay it off before the 6 month intrest free period is up otherwise you will probably get bent over in finance charges.

Insurance covers "un-intentional", "sudden and accidental" losses. Yes, even stupidity in most cases. (not that that applies here) They will need to confirm the damage to the engine, confirm evidence of water passing through the air intake system, and that there was likely high water in the area of the loss on the date reported.
Should be easy to verify. They will likely search for a used or "LKQ" engine with close to the same mileage or less. Your comprehensive deductible would apply. If you chose to upgrade, addt'l expense is on your tab.
Hope you are with a good insurance co. It makes a difference at claim time. Saving a little on premium is not always worth it. If they deny it, fight it.
Good luck!

Insurance term, LKQ- Like Kind and Quality. Used engine assembly, removed for another f-body. Most policies allow for used parts, if quality ones are available. You could start searching locally. www.car-part.com is a good search site. E-bay has many to choose from also.

Will they give me the money to have it done or do I have to go through a dealer or shop?

Depends on the insurance co. and local insurance law. Out here payment is issued to the policy holder, less the deductible. You should be able to choose the shop or repair it youself if your able. They should use an avail estimating data base to calulate mechanical labor at an average rate for your area.
