I would have to check the book to be sure but I beleive a 4 pt. cage is minimum requirement,,,,which would give you the cross bar needed for the 5 pt. harness (shoulder attatchment) which is also required at the same time.

That's cool. I'm considering doing a 4pt just because I'm taking the interior apart and don't really want to twice. Is it ok to have a removable cross bar for the harness or does it need to be welded?

That last question is a good one. Again I would have to check to be sure. It's these little details they will nitpick. I would hope for bolt in because if I did a cage I wouldn't want to leave that in all the time,,,kinda makes it hard for back seat passengers to get in.

LOL,,,thats one way to think about it

We haul family around in ours,,,and my wife even likes to sit back there on occasion. I think a cage would dampen her spirits so I refrain from them in all the cars, even though I have 2 currently that require one

I did a bit of research and this is what I came up with. The harness bar needs to be welded to a main roll bar loop 4 inches below your shoulders. You also need a 5 point cage as 4 point is not NHRA legal. You need a driver side bar by the door that has to be welded, that is the fifth point. You also have to use 6" plates on both sides of the floor boards if you bolt in the cage or else you can weld it. The main loop also needs to be no more than 6" behind the drivers helmet. Seeing I don't want to kill my back seat passengers or remove the rear seats for good I'm going to hold off on the cage and harness idea until I'm required to run them.
