    My Security Module went bad on mine ($$$), thats what the dealership replaced in mine and my buddies 2000 Firebird. Havent had any problems with them since.

    Have any of you had back up key sets made, if so how much did it cost you, i know i have to get one from like gm because of the chip in it.

    Don't quote me but I think it was around $200. Yeah it was a bit expensive but I think that $200 is better than having it not start somewhere or sometime when I really would have needed it to.

    i took it to the dealer... ignition cylcinder.... labor, parts, new keys 396.00

    If your trying to start your car and nothing is happening not even a clicking sound then chances are it's the vats, the best and cheepest way to fix that imo is to bypass it alltogather.

    so let me get this straight RedSS2000 u changed out ur starter but it still ended up bein vats that caused the no start ups?

    thanks for your help but, i just decided to take it to the dealershit cause i wanted to fix it in the long run anyways well see how much the doouch glad bags charge.

    The ignition lock cylinders are EXTREMELY common on these cars. There are 2 very small wires that go to the cyl that read the chip and they become frayed and eventual break (causing a no start).
