Even if the gain is 2 RWHP (which is typical for dyno results I've seen posted on LS1 sites), you figure it's 2 HP and dollar per HP it's very reasonable. Consider the air box lids that add about 10 HP for $100. That's $10 per HP. If a 160 thermostat would give you 2 HP for $5, that's only about $2.50 per HP. It all adds up at the rear wheels, like porting or anything else.

where the hell can you get a new thermostat for $5?! The cheapest I've seen them is like $50.

Wow. I'm used to buying parts for my 87 & 88 SS Montes. Thermostats for them are $4. I just checked with Autozone and Advance, and they list the thermostat(s) for my 02 WS6 at $20-30. Still, the principle is the same. It all adds up at the rear wheels.

It looks like it's in a housing for an LS1? That's probably the difference.

I was looking for Sarge's hour meter thread to place a few more on order and ended up finding some I figured should be brought back for all the kids that ask the same ?'s we have already covered.
