i'm awful at welding but i got an uncle who can weld so it's all good... but maybe i'll go bolt ons because it doesn't seem that there's any difference in strength or their ability to function, and i could always grind off some of the powder coating and weld em in if it was a problem right?

Does brand make a difference? Sure it does. What else can you think of that brand makes no difference? Hell, there is a difference between store-brand and Hefty garbage bags...

Allow me to be very, very blunt, because sometimes we have to call a spade a spade to get the point across.

First, consider that the more points a connector ties to, the stronger it will be as you are bracing more of the uni-body. Does it not stand to reason that a 3-pt which ties in the tunnel brace via 3 additional legs to the main rail (all you get in a 2-pt), that the 3-pt. would be tougher?

Second, look at how/where various SFC's connect. I prefer UMI connectors, though I sell various other brands including SLP, Hotchkis and Edelbrock.... Take a look for yourselves... compare the UMI parts to say the SLP's or anyone else's:
http://www.stranoparts.com/searchbym...D=22&ModelID=7 And note the UMI's pick up and brace the rear LCA mount where others don't. And UMI offers both 2 and 3 pt connectors as options where many others don't (some do, but the connectors are not close to the same).

Third: There are things to be considered like the quality of the coating, and the welding. And not only that, but look at how poor the information is on many of the brands. We list all the tubing and plate specs on the UMI right there so you know what you are getting.

Fourth: For those of you with convertibles.... very few offer SFC's for convertibles... We have those as well through UMI.

umi is the best i think. bolt on's use holes that are in the car now so you dont make any new ones. i have the umi bolt on's and havent had to titin them yet. if you have a t-top car and get the umi 3-points like what i have its the same parts for the weld in's and bolt in's you just get bolts with one not the other. you will feal it with them on the car to.

Well with all of the feedback that I have recieved about the different sfc I think i will be going with the UMI 3point bolt ins. I have to find out when the wife will allow me to spend the money. I can't hide that much

Do headers and cam then break the rear so you have to get another one

I talked her into the headers real easily. I told her it would make the car sound a lot better. She loves loud cars!!!

The cam is a battle. She loved the sound of my old chevelle with the cam in it. Once I told her how much the cam was with the proper parts and the tune she said

But I also have a second job that pays the car payment, insurance and some left over for parts. That is how I got away with the following:
headers, LM1, SLP CAI, 3.42 rear, and a ported TB.

Mild Steel ship @ 54 pounds. Chrome-Moly ships @ 50 a set. They aren't light, as it is a lot of steel.

So to get to what invaritably is the next question: 2-pts are between 28-30 depending on the style.
