I am still trying to understand how this stall works. So for you guys with say the 3200 stall, if you put your car in drive and press the gas nice and easy (normal driving) do you have to wait for the rpm's to get to 3200 before your car starts to move? This is what is kind of confusing me.

Just speaking from my experience, I have to rev to about 2000 rpm before the car starts to move (starting easy). If I start with more throttle, it revs to at least 3000 before it starts to move. I have a 3400 stall.
    Your mileage may vary...

you have to match the stall converter with the cam, if u go aggressive on the converter then a more aggressive cam too is required. that's what I'd been hearing, in my case a 3200 converter and a mild cam will do. the gears I'd recommend 3.73 for A4 and 4.10 for M6,, u'd just accelerate much faster,, oooh yeah!

but what about highway MPG? if im cruising at 80 mph, i dont want my motor screaming and guzzling my gas like crazy

also i had an issue at the track and my rear got screwed up somehow. if the gears are messed up, (which i dont think they are), what new gears should i go with? I will be installing Pacesetter LT's with a Texas Speed and Performance 3 in. Y-pipe with catalytic convertors, and a Magnaflow Cat- Back, this winter. with that setup, would 3.43 gears be a good match for now or should i leave the stock 3.23 gears in?

    oh yeah, just incase, i have a 2002 T/A WS-6

The converter will lock up at 45 mph and drive like stock.

Does anyone here know what the stall rating for the stock 4L60E is rated or considered to be?

Are you sure stock stall is 16-1800, That seems pretty high. I was going to ask that question today.
My guess would be more like 1150-1200
    Anybody know for sure?

On my 98 TA A4, when I had the stock converter in it, powerbraking to 1500 would skid my front tires out of the staging beams. Maybe mine was extra tight. I had to leave at 1200 rpm.

Years ago, I remember looking into this on older muscle cars + was surprised at how extremely low the stock ones were, vaguely remember around 1000 ish.

Doesnt mean todays are that low, but i bet most would still be surprised at the actual #.

Man I,m turning into my father, starting quotes with, "years ago". Whats next? "Back in the day" + "In the old days". Gotta go pull out the Z + smell some tire smoke,
    Make me feel young again.

O.K. pops. Wanting to know specs rather than seat of the pants.
Perhaps someone has a spec (assuming that GM ever published one) for a torque convertor. Just grab your tube of BenGay...

I havnt quite hit geezerhood yet, but i do catch myself using those, phrazes more often. ITS SCARY!!!

Alright this is a camaro board, back on
    track.
I didn't ask the orig question about the stall but I also was curious, If only to find out how much higher you are going, to get a certain performance level.
And how does the orig stall compare to the orig cams
power profile, And last but not least, curiosity.

It's O.K. mystic, I have a decade on you. But the long skinny pedal on the right side still gets lots of work. Plus I ride my bikes (3 classic rice burners) in a spirited manner. You never get too old to enjoy going swiftly.
With my stock verter, I could brake rev to around 1600 before the back tires started to break loose. This is what I considered the stall speed, and most forums will affirm that. When I called Fuddle and told them my setup, they recommended the 3400 STR 2.1 that I now have.
When I do punch it, it is immediately in the meat of the power curve (all stock internals). It just gets there a whole, whole lot quicker.
