Masonry is more about bettering one's self and community, than protecting secrets that can be found on the internet.

That is true and if your not one you will never understand it and will hate it for what you don't know. I am a much better person since becoming one.

there are ways to extract info out of people.
they taught us a few good tricks in the army.

putting a gun in ones mouth is useless if the guy doesnt want to talk.
take a .22 cal and shoot his foot first, then pour some iodine into it.
if hes doesnt talk, repeat on other foot.
still not talking, shoot him on the shin and keep going as much as possible.

Exactly what I had in mind. When I was in Iraq we mostly used sleep deprivation though.

What are the requirements to become a Mason ?

The absolute requirements for becoming a Mason are:

    • Be a man,
    • At least 21 years old [NOTE: some lodges and some jurisdictions allow 18- or 19-year-olds, or may make exceptions for those who are sons of Masons, or for university students];
    • Have belief in a Supreme Being (of any faith. No particular religion or faith is required or excluded. All are welcome.)

    Also:

You should be someone who does, or wants to learn to, enjoy the company of other men from all different social classes, faiths, backgrounds, races, countries, etc. Masonry is universal in its ideals.

If you are a family man, Masonry considers that your family obligations come FIRST, so you must be sure that:

    • You have the time to participate (usually two or three evenings/month at first for meetings and instruction, and then at least one evening per month for meetings from then on -- often more if you get involved in lodge activities.)
    • You can afford the initiation fees and the annual dues without hardship to yourself or your family.
    • You should be coming to Masonry "of your own free will and accord", to learn to improve yourself and to enjoy the company of other good people, not because someone keeps pestering you to join or because you think it will help you "get ahead" in business.

Alright, this has gone long enough. I have to say it. I did not know what a mason was, and for the most part i still dont. Never have been real big in religion if thats what this whole thing is about? Maybe im just the only dumbass in America that doesnt know what a Mason is.

Does it count if you think you are the "supreme being?"

I've been curious about the masons for a long time. The secrecy thing is neat. But as an atheist i don't qualify for the "supreme being" part, and i'm not sure how much religion plays in all of it and i don't feel like trying to hook up with some religious cult if that is what they are which is what i have heard.

I have learned a lot and my dues are like $50 a year. There are a lot of good reasons to become one and can help you out in times of need. TO be one you got ask one. There everywhere. WHen you become one you will know he is one before you even speak to him.

How much does it have to do with religion though? I know about the whole "always have to help out a fellow mason" stuff and helping out kids and all that. Which i'm into, i'm just wondering if it's more or less a church that helps people.

Living in QLD, Australia the Masons are quite Protestant/Anglican biased and most of our top level police force are Masons.

I wonder why the (Catholic) Labour government keeps falling out with the police force?? I can't work it out.

Our work in the community, hospitals, schools, etc is something that we commit ourselves too. We do have obligations that we must uphold and stay true too.

Stop by a Lodge in your area anytime. They will have the days and times posted that they meet and have dinner. Stop by eat some food and get your questions answered. You will find some truely friendly people that will be more than happy to talk with you.
