    Question Car Show input!!

Hey everyone I am needing some advice, I am in charge of putting on a car show at Missouri Western State University next fall and would like all the opinions I can get on what I should do.

First off here is the website I have created for the car show.
    Car Show
We are planning on having it September 10th and we are most likely going to donate 50% of our profits to the Special Olympics.

I just want to know what else I should do.
We are planning on making this a family event and some ideas we have so far is to offer free face painting for the kids but we need more ideas.

Let me know what you think of what I have so far and any tips you have to improve this show. We are wanting 100+ cars for this show as well. What are some common problems with shows that you would like to see prevented.

    Thanks for all your help!

    Pony rides for kids
Horse shoe(if people play that out there)
    sell Hot dogs and soda

    Clearly defined classes=
    Sport compact
    Classic muscle/ hotrod
    New muscle
    Newer truck
    Older truck
    Motorcycle

You don't want any of these classes competing against eachother other than a final best of show!

Also I've seen lots of smaller shows where they have a bucket sitting infringe of each vehicle and the one with the most money at the end for each class gets the won and gets to keep half of what goes in their bucket, while the other half goes to charity

Not really sure they would allow pony rides on campus. No place to do horse shoes either. Classes are listed on website. We will have food and drink for sale as well. Bein the fact that this show is on a college campus and that we are planning on over 100 cars I don't know if the bucket idea would be very smart.

Thanks for your input. Keep it comin. Check out the website for more info on what the show will have already

Bucket idea is good, also there is usually a class for your older cars that arent really hot rods, some nicely done bel airs, galaxies, and old pickups, those while could be thrown in with the hot rods usually dont like to be put in the same class.... most usually also have a teenage class also

i dont see the bucket idea being much of a problem, usually most owners dont leave their cars, they are within pry 15ft of the vehicle watching their stuff...

Burnouts are a big attention getter if you can get that incorporated....

also while some may bring their babies in enclosed trailers, some like a prep area where they can do some touch ups and final dressing before moving into their spots plus most people dont like others watching over their shoulder.... something to make it a little easier for people

Door prizes are good, along with say hard luck type awards if applicable

a little cruise route around town is a big publicity deal to gather attention, one i was at checkin was up untill 10, then at 1030 they had those willing kinda parade around town with police escort, on major streets, even past a nursing home where all the old guys were at the fences trying to get every rev outa ppl they could lol that let ppl know it was in town and really seemed to bring ppl in for the rest of the day

ill think of some more tommorow....

i agree with suede. A burnout contest would big a huge draw of attention. just make sure that its open to everyone jus charge like 5-10 for whoever enters

I don't think it's possible to have one on campus. Expecially since it's a new parking lot. Ild def love to have one though

Been there, done it, and actually got it done.

But, eventually it came to an end when the insurance people caught wind of it. Fun haters!

The director of student activities was already concerned about insurance issues with just having the show. No possible way a burnout competition would be approved, and if we tried it without his approval there is a possibility of losing our charter on campus

Forget the burnout contest, it's a liability headache. If you're giving out awards, make a clear list of rules for classes and when/how votes are counted. A cruise out after awards at the end of the show. A local college band would probably do it for the exposure if you feed them and give them beer. A 50/50 raffle.

So, are you giving away trophys and having judging on the cars? I've helped put on several fairly good sized shows in the past.

For your size, you need to make sure there are restrooms available. Food vendors are a plus. Door prizes are good and you can almost always get them donated. Also goody bags for all contestants who enter. Have flyers and stuff from the sponsors.

Oreilly and/or other auto parts stores help well with sponsorship usually. Also try other small businesses or audio shops.

Local bands are good and cheap and if you get an audio sponsor, they may hook you up.

If you have trophy or winners for an actual show, I would look into getting legitimate car show judges. They make life MUCH easier. Also with that many people insurance is recommended. Maybe the school will front the cost. Not expensive and 2 million is typical on what I see.

Recent show a guy with back problems was pushed off a stage by a drunk guy who stumbled and tripped into him. No alcohol served so he showed up that way. You don't want to worry about getting sued because of some other idiot.

Anyways, I'm sure there's a bunch more, but I'm half asleep and typing on my phone. If u want I can look it over in the morn.

    Later.

    Food, Drinks, Shade, ..., Organization.
Get a crew together to help. Not just one or two people, ...
Schedule meetings with the people who are going to help run it.
A number of you that are going to run it, should all go to other area shows to get any new ideas to add to it.
Don't schedule the same time as some other big area event.
And one more thing. ADVERTISE. Get the word out.

I work at an insurance company that will insure car shows. PM for details if interested.

Also, if I missed it sorry, but talk to campus police and local police and see if they can have afew officers there just in case...I've even been to a few shows where the police setup a very nice display and were very into the car seen....works both ways for everyone because you get free security and a lot of times the police get to put forward that they are people just like us and get to build a relationship with the local youth

Already talked to university police and they have said they will get one of their cruisers detailed and enter it. I will also be going to LEO and talking to them to see if they will enter a car, along with FD, and Highway patrol. I know St. Joseph has some motorcycle cops too so thats a possiblitly and Ill be trying to get some other Patriot Guard Riders out there as well.

just kinda thought of this, you could throw together a military class as kinda a salute to those who served.... let them have whatever they have in the regular class, but like as a bonus have them show military id and have kinda an extra prize for them
