Yes, you have to replace the gasket (the differential gasket isn't reusable).

As far as the gasket though, you don't have to worry about the cost-they only are about $3.50 or so!

Here's a list of stuff I recommend for changing your differential:
1.) 2 quarts of Royal Purple 75w-90
2.) 10 Bolt rear differential cover gasket (mentioned earlier)
3.) High Temperature RTV silicone
4.) Brake/Carb Cleaner
5.) A razor blade
6.) 1/2" wrench & 3/8" socket wrench
7.) A drain container (anything to put the old oil into) and plenty of rags

I Never use a gasket and haven't had any leaks on many,many,many rearend covers. A can of brake clean and a small bead of Ultra Black let it sit for 10-15 min. and bolt up.

I think the Amsoil and the RedLine are a far superior fluid then the RP myself due to tests.

So, in a sense, you do use a gasket if you're using a liquid version to seal it What tests are you talking about? I'm not trying to come off as being an ass, but I like to stay as objective as possible & if tests have been done proving superiority with a different brand I'd like to check it out!

It was done by one of the big circle track magazines with a a couple different cars. One was a 700hp sprint car and the other was a 450hp modified.
They had a temp gauge sensor probe welded to the housing and did a temp. comparison and a analysis of the oil after 200 laps.

I probably still have it some where. I'll try to look this weekend. Shit there is probably 200+ magazines laying around the shop. LOL

I found that website and followed all the directions and it ended up being very easy! the only thing i didnt do was the GM additive which im thinking of putting in later anyway just in case. The only reason i didnt use royal purple was cause i couldnt find it. Of course after i was done with diff lube change i found it in PepBoys!

Does it have to be 75-90 or can i use 80-90 cause thats what i just bought lol
