    No pun intended

The power gain is really from what you have on the car, ive heard on a stock headers car you wont gain much but on a modded up car you can gain up to 30rwhp if not more. I think on my car for example with the mods i have i might gain 7-8rwhp tops. If i consider that i have a few mods 7-8rwhp here and there will add up. I have to admitt with the exhuast cut out it does feel a little slow in the bottom end but i know thats due to losing back pressure and not due to loss of power. I think once i get my tune back from LSx and do a underdrive pulley with my other mods hopefully ill be happy for a little while either way i think the exhuast cut out is a worth while mod since its not expensive and the sound paired with a Hooker Aero or another good sounding muffler is amazing.

I like a cutout but only if it is an electric one. The DMH is the brand of choice for us. Here is an installed pic of the low profile cutouts shown above on an F-Body.

I would check your county emissions to find out where you can place your cutout at. If cats. are required in your county then you would have to put the cutout after the cats. On a stock car with a open cutout you would see a 5-10hp increase over most catback systems. Of course the more mods you have the more hp you would get out of the cutout. A eletric cutout can be anywhere from $150-$250 bucks which you could probably pick one up used cheaper and that way you can cap it and upcap it whenever you want

Major Yes on this one, 1 for the sound and 2 for the gains.... you cant beat the sound, If you have ever been around a dirt circle track, it sounds just like a late model racecar... it can be unbearable tho at hiway speeds, so i would recomend an electric one (or two)... like stated above gains depends on what all you got done... DMH makes probably the best cutout, but QTP's aren't bad at all,

You can put an electric one in the Borla. I run a McCord with mine.

what type of y-pipe is that, this spring I'm pulling my junky Pacesetter ORY off and putting a Flowmaster Ypipe merge in but I'll have to do a hell of alot of bending and cutting to make it fit. That ypipe looks like it already has one on... is that a kooks?

The nice thing with the McCord, is I can make it quiet when I need too. (Mine is loud enough )

    It is a QTP/Flowmaster Y-pipe

QTP makes/sells it, they put their electric cutouts on it, but the actuall colector on it is a flowmaster colector.... fit was great once we figgured out that to adjust how well it tucked up was to trim the end of one piece as needed.. but all in all, i the thing, i got it matched up with kooks 1 7/8 race headers and the sound is just wow....

That's a real nice looking setup.

As for gains...not every car gains power from an open cutout. I have an SLP dual/dual mufflered catback on my mid 11 second NA car. With the cutout open, it sounds GREAT IMO, but I gained nothing at the dragstrip as far as better ET or higher MPH. I was a bit disappointed, but leave it open at the track for nothing other than the sound, lol. I'll blip the button and crack it open sometimes just for kicks around town as well, but mine is solely an audio mod and not a performance one. Still have no regrets. Just wanted to share my results.

Thank you, as far as gains go, cutouts won't change much for track times, but you will notice the gains on a dyno, esp with some mods to get you to the 11s.

Why wouldn't gaining more hp/torque improve your track times??

are you referring to the torque curve being moved up in the rpm range?
