Aligning M6 Input shaft and pilot bearing

Having a major problem getting my transmission mated up again. I usually dont have this problem. Using a transmission jack, engine is tilted down(tried level but tranny hit car). Spent 6 hours wrestling it. Finally I got a 1/4 gap and started to pull it together ( I know thats bad) and it was coming together with 1 bolt but others didnt align and gap on top was larger then bottom for I figured I screwed up the bearing so I pulled it. Bearing was fine. I matched the angle of the face of the bellhousing with the face of the tranny. Problem that I see is you cant push something together thats on an angle. The input shaft tip is perfect and the alignment tool goes in and out fine. So what the heck is the trick to get it together?

You sure it's the correct bearing?

It can be a bitch to align the splines but it should go in. I've rocked and wiggled mine to get it in, I have a steel Bellhousing so drawing it in with 2 bolts is not so much of a worry as with the stock aluminum BH. Careful cause that's the reason I have a steel Quicktime BH.

yes on bearing. even mic'd the input tip vs alignment tool. splines are easy, its the pilot bearing that hard. i noticed when using alignment tool i could move disc up and down 1/8 inch. i pushed the tool up when tightening due to gravity. when is it safe to use bolts to pull in. i would say 1/4 inch bellhousing gap.

The disk should not be moving. Is it loose or you can move it with some effort? I ask cause this may be the issue. Is the disk facing the correct side?

With Aluminum BH less. It doesn't take much to snap a tab. As long as you draw it in slowly and make sure no binding. You should not have to feel like it's torquing down unless it is mated to the BH flange.

Did you get the alignment tool from Monster?


I'm asking these questions because my alignment tool had no gaps like I'm understanding in your description. It fit exactly in the pilot bearing and the splines had zero gap for both the clutch disk and pressure plate.

yes from monster. the gap iam talking about is the bellhousing to tranny while puttting it together

its in!!!!!!!

no hair around hole i guess.
does the throwout bearing always spin. i measured everything and it looks like it touches the fingers when relaxed.
